The first time I went to Efteling (which was also one of our first trips abroad) was when I was 15, still lived in Poland and all I remembered from it was that it was just completely wowed by the whole experience. It was the first attraction park that I ever went to so thinking back about it I was not sure this trip was gonna live up to my precious memories of it. But oh boy, it not only lived up to it, it was 10000 times better than I remembered. Maybe it was going there with Fer and experiencing everything through his eyes, maybe it was the perfect weather, maybe the having breakfast with the Little Red Riding Hood, but probably it was the mix of it all.
We stayed at the Bosrijk Village which is situated in a forest about 5 minute walk from the park. The atmosphere is super relaxed, there are no cars allowed inside the park, there is a swimming pool and a restaurant at the water. But the best part of staying there was that every morning there are fairytale characters joining you for breakfast - I mean how cool is having breakfast with a knight or a princess or Klaas Vaak or even freaking Little Red Riding Hood? The coolest, trust me! (Yes, I was very very excited about this).
Fer's absolute favourite of the whole park was the Sprookjesbos (the fairytale forest). It's the place where your childhood favourite fairytales come to life and it's pure magic. We went there every day and spent half of our day there before we moved to other attractions. Fer is a happy kid in general but I have never seen him happier in his entire life than when we were there. If you have a toddler, you should totally start your visit at Efteling by walking through the forest. Let your kid throw paper in the Holle Bolle Gijs (the fat man with open mouth that sucks the paper in and thanks you for it), spend some time listening to the Sprookjesboom (the fairytale tree) which seems so real it's insane, and attend one of the live shows where your kids can say hi to one of the fairytale characters.
Other attractions that Fer (and me too ;)) really enjoyed was the Carnaval Festival with Jokie and the Jet (where you take a ride and travel the world in 8 minutes), Snail Monorail, Gondoletta boat ride, steam carousel (a classic but still so much fun) and the Monsieur Cannibale spinning cauldrons. But take a look yourself at the video below!
